The Green Ghana Day Tree Planting Exercise
The Green Ghana Day Tree Planting Exercise was organized on June 7, 2024, by the All-Africa Students Union (AASU) through its Environment and Climate Action Working Group at the Madina Number 3 Cluster of Schools in Ghana. This initiative, part of the country’s annual National Tree Planting Exercise, aimed to contribute to Ghana’s greening efforts and instill environmental consciousness among students. It included a campaign session and a tree planting exercise designed to educate pupils on the importance of planting and nurturing trees while protecting existing ones, empowering them to safeguard the environment and promote sustainability.

The event featured an interactive session with AASU’s Chief Technical Officer, Bismark Amefianu Kuduafor, who engaged students on environmental issues, including the benefits of trees and the economic impacts of environmental degradation. This session inspired students to take an active role in protecting their surroundings.

The tree planting exercise was a collaborative effort between AASU staff and students. Saplings were planted near the headmistress’s office, with participants guided through proper planting techniques during a brief instructional session. Materials such as compost, repurposed tires for sapling protection, watering cans, and tools were used to ensure the young trees' healthy growth.

The initiative emphasized education, as team members explained each planting step to students, fostering environmental responsibility. A follow-up plan was implemented, with the headmistress and student volunteers pledging to maintain and monitor the saplings. The exercise not only promoted environmental conservation but also empowered students to advocate for sustainability in their communities.
